DERA MURAD JAMALI: A Balochi language female folk singer belonging to the Bugti tribe was gunned down in Dera Bugti, police said on Wednesday.

Mai Subhai was considered among the first female singers from the Bugti tribe.

Armed men riding motorcycles opened fire on the folk singer, Mai Subhai Bugti, on the outskirts of Dera Bugti and sped away, the police said, adding that the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

Police registered a case against unidentified attackers and shifted the body to hospital for medico-legal formalities.

“It was the first time a female singer was targeted in Dera Bugti,” a police official said, adding that a motive was yet to be ascertained as investigation was underway.

“We are investigating the murder of the female folk singer from all possible aspects,” a senior police officer said, adding that police were also conducting raids on suspected places.
