ISLAMABAD: Capital police chief on Monday inspected activities being carried out under the Special Initiative Police Station (SIPS) protocols and reviewed the quality of work, progress and available facilities.
Inspector General of Police Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi visited Secretariat and Shalimar police stations and Capital Patrol Headquarters, where he directed the concerned officers to ensure that all ongoing initiatives were carried out effectively and in accordance with the required standards, police said.
The IGP reviewed various sections of the police stations, facilities being provided to citizens, activities being carried out under the SIPS protocols, facilities available for police officers and officials, and overall administrative arrangements.
During his visits to Secretariat and Shalimar police stations, IGP Rizvi inspected the front desks, various sections and other important areas and reviewed facilities being provided to citizens. He also inspected measures taken to provide people visiting the police stations with a clean, comfortable and conducive environment.
While reviewing the duties of police officers and officials, overall arrangements at the police stations and the performance of various sections, the IGP directed that no negligence or delay in the provision of police services to citizens would be tolerated. He emphasised that citizens’ issues should be resolved on a priority basis and access to police services further improved.
He said equipping police stations and units with improved facilities in line with the requirements of modern policing, providing quality police services to citizens and ensuring a better working environment for police officers and officials were among the key priorities of Islamabad Police.
He said reforms and activities being carried out under the SIPS protocols were aimed at further improving the environment, facilities and standard of public services at police stations.
He further directed that ongoing construction and development projects be regularly monitored and completed within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining the required standards.
In 2024, the capital police introduced the Special Initiative Police Stations (SIPS) model to improve relations with citizens and facilitate complainants visiting police stations. Under the model, all police stations were divided into two parts: the Front End and Back End.
The Front End comprises a front desk, investigation room, inquiry room, community room, station house officer’s room and public washrooms, while the Back End includes the station clerk’s room, known as the moharrar room, lock-up, women police officer’s room, monitoring and analysis room, rooms for investigation officers and multipurpose meeting halls.
As police stations are the basic unit of the police force, the initiative was taken to bring them in line with the SIPS model. Substantial steps are being taken to improve their conditions so that people do not feel reluctant to visit police stations for legitimate work.
To provide better and timely services to people, the structure of police stations has been divided into a public area, known as the Front End, and a police working area, called the Back End.
The public area has been designed along the lines of police service centres, using modern technology and providing a friendly environment in line with modern requirements. Guidelines have also been laid down for visitors so they do not face difficulties in obtaining the required services.
Policewomen have been deployed at police stations to address the problems and complaints of women. Under the code of conduct, Front End staff will treat visitors courteously and work in three shifts.
Later, IGP Rizvi visited Capital Patrol Headquarters, where he reviewed the unit’s operational and administrative affairs, ongoing construction and development work, and facilities being provided to police officers and officials.
He also received a briefing from the concerned officers on the working of Capital Patrol, field duties and measures for ensuring a timely police response to citizens.
He directed Capital Patrol officers and officials to further enhance their presence in the field, keep the patrolling system fully active and ensure a timely and effective police response to citizens. He also directed that special attention be given to providing a better working environment and essential facilities for police officers and officials.
