KARACHI: A suspected robber allegedly involved in the recent killing of a policeman was gunned down in an alleged encounter, police said.
Official added that the shootout took place near Korangi Causeway. The suspect was identified as Ayub Burmi alias Jhando.
A police spokesperson said that the killed suspect had shot a policeman, Awais Tanoli, during an encounter in Korangi on September 5. Later on, the wounded policeman died.
One 9mm pistol and two mobile phones were recovered from his custody. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
In another incident, the police claimed to have gunned down an alleged car lifter in an “encounter.”
The AVLC said that the encounter took place during snap checking in Manghopir on Northern Bypass. The killed suspect was identified as Khurram. Police said his accomplice managed to escape from the spot, taking advantage of darkness.
The killed suspect was a member of an interprovincial gang of car-lifters known as the ‘Mani gang.’ There were 34 criminal cases registered against the deceased at different police station.
