PESHAWAR: A special committee of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on the Radio Pakistan Peshawar incident of May 9 and 10, 2023, here on Thursday sought a comprehensive, transparent and evidence-based review of the investigation and cases registered in connection with the incident.

The committee, chaired by Provincial Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Aftab Alam, met at the provincial assembly secretariat to examine facts, investigation process and legal and administrative aspects related to the incident, said a press release.

Provincial Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan, committee members and members of provincial assembly Ehtesham Ali, Tariq Mehmood Aryani, Abdul Muneem Khan, Sher Ali Afridi, Asif Masood, Mohammad Rashad Khan and Adnan Khan attended the meeting. Officials from law, police and home departments, advocate general’s office and assembly secretariat were also present on the occasion.

The committee summoned former investigating officer Wajid Shah, who briefed members on the investigation, evidence and progress in the cases. The additional advocate general questioned him about various aspects of the investigation.

The former investigating officer told the committee that First Information Reports (FIRs) had been registered against 200 people in connection with the incident. He said that 177 of those cases had been disposed of while 23 remained pending.

The additional advocate general directed the former investigating officer to conduct a detailed review of all cases and present answers to the remaining questions, along with relevant records and evidence, at the next meeting.

Committee members also questioned police officials about the investigation, current status of cases and available evidence.

The chairman of the committee, Aftab Alam, directed home and police departments to fully comply with the committee’s guidelines and instructions and place all relevant records and evidence before it.

He said that investigation should establish facts and circumstances surrounding the incident through a transparent, impartial and evidence-based process.
