ISLAMABAD: The Tehreek-i-Tahaffuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) has decided to formulate a joint political, media and public outreach strategy to make the September 27 long march effective, while accelerating contacts with all democratic parties.

According to a statement issued on Friday, the joint opposition reaffirmed that the march would remain a peaceful, constitutional and democratic struggle.

The TTAP meeting was held under the chairmanship of its head and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai.

The opposition parties agreed to accelerate contacts with all democratic parties and decided to hold a multi-party conference (MPC).

“All democratic political forces should unite on a single platform to steer the country out of the crisis,” read the statement issued by the TTAP.

The united opposition expressed its determination to continue its joint struggle for the supremacy of the Constitution, the sovereignty of parliament, provincial rights, civil liberties, and the resolution of public issues.

During the meeting, PTI leaders briefed the participants on the planned protest on the Sept 27 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s public outreach campaign during his visits to Sindh and Punjab.

The meeting resolved that peaceful protest is a constitutional right of the public and of every political party, and that there can be no deviation from this principle under any circumstances.

Unfortunately, in the wake of what the participants described as ongoing political repression, the suspension of political and human rights, and the closure of avenues for justice following the 26th Amendment, peaceful protest remains the only path available to press the rulers to restore constitutional and political rights.

The Sept 27 will mark the beginning of this effort, and by extending the movement to every corner of the country, the people’s right to rule will be reclaimed through the power of the people.

The TTAP leaders and representatives of other parties assured the PTI leadership of their support and pledged to coordinate with political forces outside the alliance to convene an MPC on critical national issues, with the aim of addressing the ongoing political and economic crisis in the country.

There was complete consensus among the participants that the prevailing conditions require all democratic political forces to come together on a single platform to help steer the country out of crisis. In this regard, responsibilities have been assigned and committees have been formed to coordinate with other political parties.
