KARACHI: Khurram Shahzad’s match-winning nine-wicket haul propelled Ghani Glass to an innings and 14-run victory over Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) on Sunday, producing the first result of the President’s Trophy Grade-I.

Khurram followed his first-innings four-wicket haul with 5-75 as SNGPL, resuming on 106-2 and still 151 runs behind, were dismissed for 242 in their second innings at Diamond Cricket Ground.

Sameer Minhas offered the most resistance with 96 off 115 balls, including 13 fours, but fell four runs short of what would have been his maiden first-class century. SNGPL lost their last eight wickets for 97 runs.

Ghani’s pace attack accounted for eight of the wickets, with Khurram, Ali Shabbir and Shoaib Akhtar Jr sharing the spoils. Shoaib had taken five wickets in the first innings.

At Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Pakistan Television’s Mohammad Taha struck a magnificent 225 as his side secured a slender 36-run first-innings lead over State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Resuming on 268-3 with Taha unbeaten on 103, PTV were bowled out for 469 in reply to SBP’s 433. Taha faced 362 balls and hit 22 fours and two sixes, falling just one run short of his previous first-class best.

SBP, however, fought back by taking four PTV wickets for 84 in 23 overs by stumps. They led by just 48 runs, with captain Mohammad Ghazi Ghori unbeaten on 43 off 36 balls, including eight fours, alongside Rameez Aziz on two.

PTV pacers Haris Rauf, Amad Butt and Musa Khan took a wicket apiece.

At Shoaib Akhtar Stadium in Rawalpindi, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) remained firmly in contention against MIT Solutions after Imran Rafiq and Asim Ali Nasir struck centuries.

Chasing MIT Solutions’ imposing 660, KRL reached 423-5 in 133 overs. Asim was unbeaten on 110 off 227 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes, while Imran made 122 off 192 balls, hitting 19 fours.

The pair added 159 for the fifth wicket after joining forces with KRL on 198-4, taking the score to 357 before Imran was dismissed. Faheem Ashraf was unbeaten on 28 alongside Asim at close.

KRL had resumed at 140-3, with Shahzaib Khan moving from 60 to 75 before falling.

At Rawalpindi, OGDCL moved within 36 runs of victory against Kingsmen Academy after dismissing them for 203 in their second innings.

Kingsmen, who had conceded an 83-run first-innings deficit, resumed on 35 without loss but were undone by Mohammad Salman and left-arm spinner Danish Aziz.

Salman finished with 4-48 from 14.5 overs, while Danish took 4-7 from four overs. Mohammad Tayyab Arif again provided the main resistance, making 56 off 76 balls with nine fours, following his century in the first innings.

OGDCL closed on 85-1 in 23 overs, with Waqar Ahmed unbeaten on 56 off 78 balls, needing another 36 runs for victory.
