KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan on Sunday flexed its political muscles and staged a big rally to demand new administrative units across the country, including Sindh.

Carrying party flags and chanting slogans, a large number of party activists and supporters, including women, converged on Shahrah-i-Pakistan near Ayesha Manzil to form a caravan of vehicles towards Mazar-i-Quaid, where central leaders addressed the participants.

The party said the rally was organised by District Central chapter of the MQM-P.

Speaking on the occasion, MQM-P chairman Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that after the people of Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas backed the demand, Karachiites had also decided in favour of new administrative units.

“Today, our demand for administrative units is being discussed nationwide,” he said.

He said that today’s event was an expression of the determination of party workers and the public.

He said that new provinces should not be created on a linguistic basis, but rather on administrative grounds so that the fruits of democracy can reach the public. “Today marks the beginning of the struggle for administrative units, not the end.”

Speaking on the occasion, senior leader Dr Farooq Sattar said that 18 years of patience has come to an end and the people of Sindh have taken to the streets for their rights.

“Administrative units will change the future of Karachi, as well as of Larkana, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad and other cities of Sindh,” he said.

“Today’s rally has conveyed the message that people in other parts of Sindh, including Karachi, are raising their voices for their administrative rights,” he added.
