ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi on Monday highlighted the principles of parliamentary democracy, constitutional governance and justice sector reforms to a delegation of 123 participants from the National Defence University’s (NDU) National Security and War Course 2027.

The delegation, led by Chief Instructor Major General Mohammad Shahzad Khan, was hosted at the Supreme Court of Pakistan. It comprised faculty members and officers from the Armed Forces and Civil Services of Pakistan, along with 27 participants from friendly countries.

Welcoming the delegation, Chief Justice Afridi explained the constitutional scheme of the trichotomy of powers and the complementary roles of the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary in upholding the rule of law.

He also apprised the participants of the judicial hierarchy and the respective jurisdictions of various courts.

The chief justice highlighted the role of the National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) as the highest judicial policy forum and briefed the delegation on measures aimed at improving court infrastructure, public facilitation and access to justice.

He also discussed the Gender-Responsive Justice Initiative 2026–27, with a focus on Women Facilitation Centres that provide essential facilitation and support services to women litigants under one roof.
