KARACHI: A newly married woman was shot dead allegedly by her brother in Orangi Town under the pretext of honour on Monday.

Mominabad SHO Shahbaz Yusuf said 18-year-old Zarqa Bibi had married of her own free will around three weeks ago and started living with her husband.

He said her family traced her and persuaded her to return home for a formal wedding ceremony.

He said Zarqa returned to her parents’ home on Sunday night where her brother shot her dead and fled.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The police said that the suspect was identified as Safeer Khan and raids were being carried out to arrest him.

Meanwhile, a stray bullet hit and wounded a three-year-old boy in the North Nazimabad area on Monday evening.

The child was taken to a hospital for treatment.
