ISLAMABAD: A decision has been made to inaugurate the Islamabad Model Jail next month.

In this regard, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed that all work must be completed before the inauguration.

The Islamabad Model Jail project had been pending for 15 years and is now nearly complete. Mr Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry reviewed the progress of the ongoing work on the project at a meeting.

Mr Naqvi directed that all remaining work on the Model Jail project be completed as soon as possible. “All necessary measures must be ensured in a timely manner to complete the Model Jail project,” he said.

“There should be no unnecessary delay at any level,” he said, adding that there was no room for further delay in completing the Model Jail project.

Construction, administrative and all other necessary tasks must be finalised before the inauguration, and all relevant agencies should work in coordination to complete the project within the stipulated timeframe, the minister said.

Talal Chaudhry is personally supervising the completion process of the Model Jail project and visiting the site weekly to review progress.

“Work on the Model Jail project is being continuously monitored,” Chaudhry said. “We will ensure its completion within the scheduled time by working together with all relevant agencies,” he added.

The meeting included a detailed review of the Model Jail’s remaining work, administrative matters and preparations for the inauguration.

Meanwhile, Mr Naqvi visited various areas of Islamabad and reviewed the overall situation in the city, civic facilities, and arrangements for cleanliness and beautification.

He inspected schools, hotels and other public places and issued directions to the relevant authorities. According to an official statement, the minister also directed the CDA and other wings concerned to remove encroachments from various areas of Islamabad, adding that encroachment would not be tolerated anywhere in the federal capital.

He also directed the CDA to launch a comprehensive beautification plan for all roads in Islamabad and ordered tree plantation in various vacant patches of greenbelts.

The interior minister said greenery should be enhanced, adding that Islamabad should look like a capital city in every respect.
