RAWALPINDI: In order to deal with the long march of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf on September 27 and the possibility of disturbance to peace, over 150 party leaders and workers across the Rawalpindi Division were detained under 3-MPO and shifted to different jails.

On the other hand, door-to-door knocking of PTI leaders and workers by police was ongoing in Rawalpindi Division, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal and Murree.

According to sources, the police have been activated to arrest a total of 463 leaders and activists from tier one to tier three who have gone underground. Monitoring of 91 leaders and workers of Insaf Student Federation and Insaf Lawyers Forum is also ongoing, while door-to-door knocking has also been carried out, with more than 2,000 homes and offices checked in the last 20 days.

According to sources, in order to deal with the PTI long march, police and administration in all the five districts of Rawalpindi Division — Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Murree and Jhelum — are busy blocking roads, deploying police and taking other preventive measures.

Over 10,600 police personnel deployed in Rawalpindi to maintain peace during long march

In order to reduce the number of active and prominent leaders and workers of PTI and Insaf Students Federation at the district level, police are taking into custody active and prominent leaders and workers.

The police and administration, following a detailed survey, have revealed that there are a total of 463 prominent leaders and active workers of PTI in the Rawalpindi region who can play a role in mobilising other workers. Out of these, there are a total of 463 leaders and workers in Rawalpindi district, including 59 of tier one, 178 of tier two and 226 of tier three. The Insaf Students Federation and Insaf Lawyers Forum have a total of 91 leaders and workers across the division.

It has been learnt that the lists of PTI supporters/active workers have been provided to the police, and the police are active for their arrests and monitoring. Sources said that since September 4, a total of 150 PTI leaders and workers in Rawalpindi Division had been detained under 3-MPO due to fears about disturbance to peace. They have been detained in various jails of the region.

However, police sources said that door-knocking continued on a daily basis, but PTI leadership and workers had gone underground. Police sources said a total of 2,019 houses had been visited in the Rawalpindi Division and this process was continuing.

Police deployment

In Rawalpindi, more than 10,600 police personnel will be deployed to maintain peace during the PTI march.

According to sources, additional police contingents called from other districts have started arriving in Rawalpindi to assist the local police in maintaining peace during the PTI long march.

On the other hand, City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera and Deputy Commissioner retired Captain Nadeem Nasir visited Taxila, where two companies of Pakistan Rangers are to be deployed. The officers reviewed the security arrangements at the city’s entrances and gave instructions to the officers.

They said foolproof arrangements are being made for the safety of citizens and the maintenance of law and order. Law and order and the safety of citizens will be ensured at all costs. All measures are being taken to ensure the supremacy of the law and its enforcement, they said.
