ISLAMABAD: Three policemen serving in the capital police were found involved in operating a “dacoit gang” in Islamabad along with their accomplices.

An official of the Public Relations Branch of the capital police confirmed the involvement of the three officials in operating a gang, but didn’t provide further details.

Sources in the police said the gang was busted during the investigation of a dacoity case at the house of Chinese nationals located in G-10/4 on September 13.

Five persons armed with weapons and one of them in police uniform overpowered the two security guards at the main gate and held them at gunpoint. Later, one of the gunmen stayed at the gate and the others took the guards inside the house. They introduced themselves as government officials and held the two Chinese, their cook, a translator and the guards hostage. The gunmen also threatened them with dire consequences and said they would shoot them, if they put up any resistance. The gunmen detained all the six persons in a room and two of the suspects guarded them and the others searched for cash and valuables. During the search, they collected around Rs8 million from the Chinese nationals.

The culprits also took away a DVR while escaping.

Over the incident, the police registered a case under sections 395 (dacoity), 170 (personating a public servant) and 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent) of Pakistan Penal Code, in response to a complaint lodged by one of the two Chinese nationals. After registration of the case, the police started an investigation and with the help of CCTV footage succeeded in tracing the suspects.

The sources said after committing the crime, the suspects reached a police installation which led to their identification.

The investigators then picked up the three policemen, who later identified their accomplices who were also arrested.

During the investigation, it was revealed that they committed the house dacoity in response to a tip, however, the man who gave them the tip is yet to be identified.

It was further revealed that as per the standard operating procedure, Special Protection Unit of the capital police, established to provide security to Chinese nationals, was not deployed at their residence. However, the Chinese had hired the services of guards from a private company.
