Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, have met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, according to Al Jazeera.
They “exchanged views on developments in West Asia following the US’s repeated reneging on commitments and its violation of the terms of the Islamabad understanding,” Iran’s ISNA news agency reports, citing Araghchi.
He has informed Lavrov of the latest developments regarding an arrangement between Iran and Oman on shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz and the status of ongoing mediation efforts, blaming the US for the “current insecurity” in the critical waterway.
Iran remains “determined to defend its national interests and security and to prevent the US from exploiting the Strait of Hormuz to threaten Iran’s national security”, Araghchi adds.
