BAJAUR: The long-awaited Government Degree College Salarzai was finally inaugurated after a delay of about 12 years here in Bajaur the other day.

The college, the establishment of which had been awaited since its approval by then Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan in December 2014, was opened in a temporary building by PTI MPA Anwar Zeb Khan at a ceremony.

The opening ceremony of the college, which was said to have been re-approved by the provincial government a few months ago and is all set to start first and second year classes, was attended by local elders, students, teachers and PTI workers.

Prof Muhammad Salim Jan, the acting principal of the college established in a private building a few days ago, informed the participants that the college was ready to properly start classes for first and second year, offering disciplines of pre-medical, pre-engineering, computer science and fine arts.

The ceremony was told that about 200 students had applied for enrolment in both first and second year classes at the college having 14 faculty members.

Speaking at the ceremony, PTI MPA Anwar Zeb Khan said the provincial government had approved the college on his request in the recently announced fiscal budget for 2026-27. He said the initiative would enable the maximum number of students from Salarzai tehsil who had passed matriculation to secure admission to first year, as many students from the area were deprived of admission each year due to limited space at Government Postgraduate College Khar.

The lawmaker pledged to ensure the college gets its own proper building with all required facilities and equipment.
