HYDERABAD: Four persons received burn injuries and two motorbikes were destroyed by a fire as oil from a pole-mounted transformer in the Khai Road area spilled from it and caught fire on late Friday night.
The injured persons were identified as Kamran, Faizan, Muzaffar and Sirjauddin. They were shifted to the burns ward of the Liaquat University Hospital, where Faizan, with 18pc burns on his body was admitted.
The incident took place near the area’s Madadgar-15 facility of the Sindh Police in Hesco’s Memon sub-division.
According to the Rescue-1122 agency, three motorbikes and one bike-driven loader vehicle were burnt.
Local residents claimed that a blast in the transformer occurred due to overload. It caused power breakdown in the area.
There were three transformers mounted on the same pole. One of them with 200kVA had earlier developed a fault and it was rectified, according to a Hesco spokesman. After rectification of the fault, oil was filled in it and the transformer was supposed to run without being connected to the area’s load, he said.
Apparently, he added, the load was connected immediately which caused spilling of oil. He said that an inquiry committee was formed under the utility’s Director Safety, Asif Sheeraz. He said that no action had been taken so far because the inquiry committee’s initial report was awaited by Hesco chief Faizullah Dahri.
