KARACHI: Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in a house robbery that resulted in the murder of a teenage boy in Manghopir.

The incident triggered a strong protest by the deceased Rosham Husain’s family, relatives and residents, who staged a sit-in that continued on Saturday outside the Manghopir police station.

West SSP Tariq Illahi Mastoi said that the police arrested two “important suspects involved in house robberies in Manghopir”.

The suspects were identified as Dilawar alias Tariq and Muhammad Rizwan alias Asif and fake police uniforms used during the crimes were recovered from them, the SSP said.

He added that one of the victims of the house robbery had identified the suspects.

According to a police statement, on Sept 8, the teenager Rosham was shot dead during a house robbery in Mehran City of Manghopir. “The suspects were being interrogated about the Rosham Husain killing case.”

For further investigation into the Rosham murder case, the arrested suspects were handed over to the Special Investigation Unit of the Sindh police.

“Rosham’s father, Roidad Husain, has been formally informed about the arrest of the suspects and the ongoing investigation in the murder case,” said the SSP.

Talking to Dawn, the deceased’s uncle said, “The police have informed us about the arrest of the suspects. But we have not decided to call off our sit-in.”

He added that it was their family’s stance to start and end the sit-in. “Once the decision to call off the sit-in is made, we will announce it publicly. Until then, our sit-in will continue.”
