KARACHI: The killing of a teenage boy by robbers inside his house in Manghopir on Tuesday morning sparked a protest outside the area police station by the victim’s relatives and area residents.

Carrying the victim’s coffin, the protesters demanded an end to the rising incidence of crime in the area.

Police identified the victim as Roshan Husain, 17.

His father, Roidad Husain, told the media that at around 4am, six robbers, including two wearing police uniforms, barged into his house. All of them were wearing masks. On seeing them, he woke up and took out his licensed pistol.

Meanwhile, his son also came out of his room. The armed men, wearing police uniforms, opened fire. As a result, his son suffered a bullet to the chest and died on the spot.

He said he did not open fire because he feared that the robbers might actually be policemen. He said he later learnt that the same criminals had looted four houses in the vicinity. The father said his son had recently passed his matriculation examination with flying colours.

The family and residents announced that they would not perform the last rites of the deceased until the killers were arrested.

They also announced plans to hold similar protests outside the Karachi Press Club and the residence of President Asif Ali Zardari in Clifton.

The residents also said they had submitted applications to the police three times, requesting an increase in patrolling, but Manghopir police did not patrol the area at night.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
