Ramin Kashef-Azar, CEO of Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport, says the airport remains fully operational despite US sanctions on Iran’s aviation industry, Al Jazeera reports.
He told Iranian media that the airport continues to serve more than 30 international destinations and that 60 flights operated successfully on September 23, the day the sanctions took effect.
The US Treasury Department sanctioned 27 airlines on September 8, covering the remaining Iranian carriers not previously sanctioned. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said airports and companies that provide Iranian-operated aircraft with fuel, landing services or ticket sales risk secondary sanctions that could cut them off from the US financial system.
Oman and the UAE have since suspended Iranian flights, and four airports in Iraq have halted them. Iranian airlines continue to fly to countries including China and Russia.
