SWAT: The Jamiat Asatiza Swat held a protest demonstration outside the Swat Press Club the other day against the proposed outsourcing of government schools.

The protesting teachers carried banners and placards inscribed with various demands and slogans.

Jamiat Asatiza Khyber Pakhtunkhwa patron Muhammad Rahim Haqqani, deputy convener Roidad Muhammad, Jamiat Asatiza Swat patron Mian Noor Badshah, president Engr Miraj Ahmad and other leaders addressed the protesters.

The speakers opposed the proposed outsourcing of government schools, saying it would deprive children from underprivileged families of educational opportunities. They said public schools primarily serve children from poor households and outsourcing such institutions could limit their access to education.

The teachers’ leaders also complained that employees of various institutions were provided better incentives and facilities, while teachers were not receiving benefits commensurate with their services.

They also expressed reservations about the pension reforms, alleging that teachers were being deprived of their pension rights in the name of reforms while simultaneously being burdened with taxes.

The teachers’ leaders urged the government to accept their demands, warning that if their grievances were not addressed, they would intensify their protest campaign and mobilise teachers across the province and take to the streets.
