LAHORE: A newly-enrolled grade-VI girl student died under mysterious circumstances in Daanish School, Taunsa Sharif, on Tuesday.

Reports said Khansa Noorin of Chah Khaliwala was found unconscious on the ground of the school in the morning.

She was taken to the tehsil headquarters (THQ) hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.

The victim’s relatives approached the hospital and talking to the media said that marks of torture were found on the body of the girl.

They said the girl might have been tortured and died, adding that the school administration was not revealing the truth.

Meanwhile, police reached the spot and shifted the body to the morgue for an autopsy.

Daanish School Authority spokesperson Rizwan Khalid told Dawn that the girl was newly enrolled and her classes started on Sept 1.

He said the girl was called from her hostel for a morning walk and she was walking when she fell on the ground.

He said she was provided with first aid and was taken to hospital where she could not survive.

He said the girl suffered a cardiac arrest and died.

He also rejected family allegations about torturing the girl.

The spokesman said the police and the district administration conducted the postmortem examination of the girl and they were also waiting for its report.
