GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Chief Minister Amjad Hussain has said that traffic incidents on the Baltistan Road pose a risk to human lives, and sought road safety measures from the National Highway Authority (NHA) and Frontier Works Organisation (FWO).

Speaking at a meeting convened to discuss measures to prevent traffic accidents and incidents caused by landslides on the Baltistan Road, officially renamed the Baltistan Highway in April 2023, CM Hussain emphasised the importance of the road.

He noted that travellers and tourists using the route face difficulties due to frequent landslides.

“Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives to ensure safe travel on this vital highway. The NHA and FWO must implement safety measures on an emergency basis,” he said.

Meanwhile, CM Hussain said that the region offers vast investment opportunities in the tourism and power sectors. Special Investment Facilitation Council Secre­tary Jameel Ahmed Qureshi met with CM Hussain and briefed him on efforts to attract international investors to the energy, tourism and other key sectors.
