Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom hit Disneyland

Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom scrubbed up well as they hit Disneyland Paris for the premiere of the latest in the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise.

The pair, along with co-star Javier Bardem, surprised fans by sailing — well, maybe flying — on over the Happiest Place On Earth for the European Premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge.

The film, which is the fifth instalment in the Pirates Of The Caribbean saga sees Orlando Bloom aka, Will Turner, return to the franchise. Speaking at the event, Depp said: “It’s endless fun. [Jack Sparrow’s] a really fun character to play because I’m allowed to be as irreverent as I want.”

He added that it was especially fun to work with his on-screen ‘frenemy’ Geoffrey Rush again.

“Each time out it’s always something new between Geoffrey and I,” he said.

Google to ditch its ‘blob’ emojis

Google has announced it will replace its oft-criticised ‘blob emojis’ with traditional round faces used on other mobile devices and email platforms.

Unlike the ubiquitous round emojis displayed on Apple and Android operating systems, Google’s version looked like a cross between melted lemon drops and the yellow ghost in Pac Man. The blobs, as they came to be called, are seen on all Google platforms, including Gmail, Google+ and during Google Hangouts.

Not only are the shapes different, but users often complained the icons were so small that it was difficult to tell what emotion someone was trying to convey.

Executives said the change was necessary not just because of aesthetics but also because emojis have become an increasingly common tool for sharing emotions. Google said its new version of emojis will be released later this year, timed with the forthcoming new Android operating system.

Rihanna slammed for wearing fur coat

The singer angered the animal rights charity PETA when she attended a Christian Dior event in a knee-length Dior coat. They responded by sending her a faux fur coat to replace it, and an open letter reminding her how a real fur coat is made.

“Please accept this faux fur as a gift from PETA. In addition, we’d like to request that you please consider donating your furs to us. Every fur item causes a tremendous amount of pain and suffering to the foxes, minks and coyotes who are beaten, electrocuted, gassed and often skinned alive by the fur industry — and fur production takes a toll on humans as well”.

The letter went on to detail the harmful effects of the fur industry on the environment. Rihanna recently received a Harvard Humanitarian Award, which PETA reminded her of by quoting her own acceptance speech back to her in the letter as well.
