KARACHI: Police on Tuesday made little headway in the investigation into the murder of a woman and her three children, who were bludgeoned to death in their Surjani Town home on Monday evening.
The four victims — Mehwish Danish, 34, Hasnain, 6, Mirha, 8 and Ashmeera, 3, — were laid to rest at a local graveyard amid moving scenes.
Officials said a case has been registered and an investigation has begun to ascertain the possible motive and identify the killer(s).
Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said the post-mortem examinations of the deceased persons were carried out at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and doctors found “multiple injuries on head”.
She said it appeared that the mother had been killed with hard and blunt instruments, such as an iron rod or stick, while the children succumbed to fatal head injuries caused by impact with a hard surface.
On Tuesday, a case was registered on the complaint of Muhammad Yameen, the grandfather of the children, under Section 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against unknown persons.
Surjani SHO Nasir Mehmood said it appeared that someone familiar with the family was involved in the gruesome murders.
However, he said, investigators were currently focusing on the technical aspects of the case through geo-fencing, call detail records (CDRs) and digital video recorder (DVR) footage.
He said investigators had questioned Mehwish’s husband, Danish, but had obtained no useful leads from the interview.
He said the whole family was in extreme shock, and investigators had decided to focus on technical evidence at this stage.
