Teachers’ Day is just a few days away, and while you still have plenty of time to plan something special for your teacher, why not make a little something yourself? This colourful, decorative craft creates a lovely keepsake your teacher can keep on their desk and remember you always.

Let’s start:

Things you need:

1. Pieces of colourful foam sheets; you can use coloured paper as well.

2. Scissors

3. Four craft sticks (large)

4. One small craft stick

5. One 4x4 piece of cardboard

6. Ruler

7. Marker

8. Hot glue or white glue

9. Beads, buttons or stickers (optional)

Directions:

1. To make the mini books: Cut colourful foam sheets into pieces measuring 1-inch-wide and 2 inches long; see picture 2.

2. Paste at least three pieces of light-coloured or white foam inside each coloured piece. This will make the coloured foam the book cover, with light-coloured pages inside; pictures 3 and 4.

3. Make at least six such mini books and set them aside; picture 5.

4. To make the stand for the classroom board: Take two craft sticks and paste one on top of the other to make them at least 2 inches longer than a single stick. Repeat this with another pair of craft sticks. Join the two pairs at the centre to form an ‘A’ shape; picture 6.

5. Take a small craft stick and paste it sideways across the two legs of the stand, about 4 inches below the top point of the ‘A,’ picture 7.

6. To make the classroom board, use a black or green sheet. Cut a piece 3.5 inches long and 3 inches wide, and paste it onto a piece of cardboard of the same size. To highlight the board, cut a strip of a different-coloured sheet and paste it along the top; picture 8.

7. Paste the classroom board onto the small craft stick as shown in picture 9.

8. To make the platform for the board stand: take a piece of cardboard measuring about 5 inches long and 4 inches wide. Cover it with coloured foam or paper and paste it onto the base of the stand. Cut small pieces of foam or paper to make a ruler, sheets of paper and other decorations; pictures 10 and 11.

To make the stand stay firmly on the platform, make small blocks by joining two small pieces of craft sticks together. Paste these blocks on both sides of the stand at the bottom. This will help keep the stand upright; picture 12.

Paste the small decorative ruler and paper onto the board. Arrange the mini books on the platform and around the stand in different ways to make it look like a little classroom scene; picture 13.

Write your Teachers’ Day message on the board.
