REGRETTABLY, the major network of highways along the banks of Indus River in Sindh remains neglected. Despite the passage of more than a decade, the crucial section of the Indus Highway from Jamshoro to Sehwan is still incomplete, posing serious safety risks and resulting in poor travel quality.

It is noteworthy that Sindh has already paid its share for this project. It is the federal government that has delayed the completion of the project. This seriously prolonged delay has cost precious lives and has severely affected travel conditions.

Similarly, the motorway between Sukkur and Hyderabad, a vital component of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has suffered significant setbacks due to inadequate federal oversight and alleged embezzlement by certain officials who reportedly absconded after misappro-priating billions of rupees. It is astonishing that while CPEC sections in Punjab have already been completed, Sindh continues to witness minimal progress. These critically important infrastructure projects need to be completed on a war footing to provide relief to the people of Sindh.

Their timely completion will not only reduce accidents and ensure safer, higher-quality travel, but also stimulate economic activity in the region, serving as an essential conduit for the movement of goods to and from upcountry areas.
