Continuing probation

SOME municipal officers were recruited through the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) in 2024, but their probation has still not been completed. This is difficult to understand when officers in many other departments have their probation completed within a shorter period.

These officers were selected on merit and have also completed their Compulsory Induction Training (CIT) at the Training Management and Research Wing in Karachi. Despite this, there is still no clear progress regarding the completion of their probation and their permanent posting.

One of the most serious concerns is related to their salaries. These officers are reportedly being paid through a manual system rather than through regular online salary arrangements. More worrying is the fact that when an officer is awaiting posting or has not been given a posting, there can be a situation where no salary is received. How can a young officer selected through a proper competitive process be left without salary simply because he is waiting for a posting? Salary is not a favour; it is the basic entitlement of an employee.

These officers have given their time, completed their training and are willing to serve, but they continue to wait without a clear answer about their future. The relevant ministry and the authorities concerned should look into the matter and take appropriate steps for these young officers. Their probation should be over, proper postings should be given, and a clear mechanism should be established for the timely payment of their salaries.
